Fairbanks rips Fresno, 5-1

Big Dipper Ice Arena    Fri, Mar 15, 2013

The Fresno Monsters had trouble finding ways to stop the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, which beat Monsters, 5-1.

Fairbanks' Kevin Aldridge was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Aldridge will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.35.

The Ice Dogs were led by Devin Loe, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Loe scored 16:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fairbanks. Taylor Munson assisted on the tally.

Fresno was unable to stop Fairbanks from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ice Dogs eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Fairbanks also got points from Max Birkinbine, who also registered one goal and one assist, Lawrence Cornellier, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jayson Angus, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Garret Clemment as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Chandler Madry, who had two and Kyle Lee and Jacob Hetz, who contributed one a piece.

The Monsters stifled Fairbanks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 27 shots that Fresno put on net surpassed the Monsters' average of 14.6 shots per game this season.

Fresno was led by Gordon Wells, who scored the team's only goal. Wells scored on the power play 12:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno. The Monsters had taken the advantage when the Ice Dogs' Zack Rall got sent off for hooking. Matt Salituro provided the assist.

Fairbanks totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Fresno's Macauley Haight stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Monsters totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
