The Topeka RoadRunners were firing on all cylinders against the Odessa Jackalopes, and when the final buzzer sounded RoadRunners emerged with an 8-2 win. Tyler Groat was all over the ice for Topeka, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Groat scored the first of his two goals at 34 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Tyler Poulsen provided the assist. Groat's next tally made the score 3-0 Topeka with 7:24 left in the first period. Juraj Kucirko assisted on the tally. The RoadRunners forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Topeka had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The RoadRunners excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Topeka outdid its season average for goals scored. The RoadRunners have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. With 38 shots on target during the contest, Topeka exceeded the 25.6 shots it averages per game this year. Topeka also got points from Tyler Andrew, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Poulsen, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Kyle Sharkey as well. More assists for Topeka came via Sean Gaffney, who had three and Patrick Pollock, Michal Pastor, and Trace Strahle, who contributed one a piece. The Odessa penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Jackalopes surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Odessa put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.3 it averages per game. The RoadRunners' Spencer Viele stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Topeka registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Jackalopes' starting goalie, Nick Deery, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Erick Majerle, who stopped seven shots.
