Texas rolls over Odessa, 8-2

The Texas Tornado had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Nick Neville had two goals and two assists to lead Texas. Neville scored the first of his two goals at 4:47 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Texas. Mitchell McPherson picked up the assist. Neville's next tally made the score 6-1 Texas with 29 seconds left in the second period. The Tornado had gained a power play chance when Mike Mezzano was whistled for high sticking. Jackson Leef provided the assist.

Texas surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Tornado average 3.8 goals per game. The defensemen of Texas were also effective in Odessa's zone, and came away with two goals. The 48 shots that the Tornado put on net surpassed Texas' average of 30.8 shots per game this season.

Texas also got points from Leef, who also registered one goal and two assists and McPherson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Texas included Brandon Hawkins, who had two and Louie Rowe and Justin Greenberg, who scored one goal each. In addition, Texas received assists from Michael Hoy, who had three, Cameron Brown, Jason Eddy, Donovan Gardiner, and elexie solovyev, who contributed one a piece, and Nick Blas and CJ Reuschlein, who each chipped in two.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Jackalopes exceeded the 15.5 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa was led by Rif Taff, who racked up one goal and one assist. Taff scored 13:04 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Texas. Matt Volonnino assisted on the tally. Odessa also got a goal from Josh Racek as well. More assists for Odessa came via Jimmy Peplinski and Zane Popilock, who contributed one a piece.

The Tornado's Aaron Davis stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Texas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Erick Majerle took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Nick Deery who made 27 saves. The Jackalopes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
