Springfield beats Michigan 1-0 as Leon gains shutout

Matt Leon recorded a shutout against the Michigan Warriors as the Springfield Jr. Blues picked up a 1-0 win.

Brett Skibba's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 18:21 in the third period. Ryan Atkinson assisted on the tally.

Springfield was paced by Skibba, who finished with one goal.

The Jr. Blues' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Michigan power plays. By firing 27 shots on goal, Springfield exceeded the 24.2 shots it averages per game this year. The defense for the Jr. Blues played an important role offensively, racking up 11 shots on goal.

In addition, Springfield received assists from Davis Dekorte, who had one.

Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Warriors' offense operated below they season average. Michigan averages 2.3 goals per game. The Warriors relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Martin Gruse, Joshua Shellman and Brock Labelle took 16 of the team's 31 shots.

Leon rejected 31 shots on goal for Springfield. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Trevor Gorsuch recorded 26 saves for Michigan. The Warriors incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
