Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Corpus Christi IceRays defeated the Wichita Falls Wildcats in a shootout 5-4 (3-1 SO). The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Wichita Falls' shootout goal was scored by Eliot Grauer. In addition to the clincher, Corpus Christi got shootout goals from Eric Purcell and Brandon Smith.The IceRays overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Corpus Christi was down 3-1 after a power play goal by the Wildcats' Salminen Sami at 20 seconds in the third period. The IceRays tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Ben Kucera at 19:02 in the third period. Corpus Christi got the win thanks to a great game by Smith, who had one goal and two assists. Smith scored short handed 10:17 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wichita Falls. A slashing call on Brandon Berkley put the IceRays on the penalty kill. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Corpus Christi exceeded the 23.6 shots it averages per game this year. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Rudy Sulmonde as well. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Beau Walker, who had two and Ryan Chiasson and Andrew Paras, who each chipped in one. Wichita Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the IceRays to score on any of their three power plays. The Wildcats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 46 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.7 shots per game they average. Wichita Falls also got points from Sami, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Chris Knudson also scored for Wichita Falls. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Tyler Ledford, who had one. Ben Myers made 42 saves for Corpus Christi on 46 shots. The IceRays ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Wichita Falls' Evan Cowley stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Wildcats totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
