Jackstadt's big game bests Fresno in 4-1 Kenai River win

Behind a great game by Alex Jackstadt, who had two goals and one assist, the Kenai River Brown Bears defeated the Fresno Monsters, 4-1.

Jackstadt's tallies came on the power play at 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River and 3:16 into the second to make the score 2-0 Kenai River.

Kenai River was led by goalie Evan McCarthy, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. McCarthy managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.47 prior to the game.

The Brown Bears forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Kenai River had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. By firing 54 shots on goal, the Brown Bears exceeded the 24.9 shots they average per game this year.

Kenai River also got a goal from Jacob Davidson as well. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Alec Butcher, who had three and Vincent Stefan, Carson Vance, and Mikhail Bushinski, who each chipped in one.

Fresno racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The Monsters surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. With 29 shots on target during the contest, Fresno exceeded the 17.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Monsters were led by Jacob McDowell, who scored the team's only goal. McDowell scored 4:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kenai River.

Kenai River registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Tomas Sholl recorded 50 saves for Fresno. The Monsters registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
