Brookings vanquishes Bismarck in shootout, 1-0 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brookings Blizzard defeated the Bismarck Bobcats in a shootout 1-0 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.

Drew Weigman spearheaded the defensive effort for Brookings, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 45 saves for the shutout. Weigman certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.77 entering the contest.

The Blizzard's defensive effort looked to be improved. Brookings allows 3.0 goals per game. The Blizzard put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.9 they average per game.

Bismarck excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Bobcats' offense operated below they season average. Bismarck averages 2.9 goals per game. The Bobcats forced Brookings goalie Weigman to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Bismarck was led by Adam Knochenmus, who took seven shots.

The Blizzard ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Aaron Nelson recorded 32 saves for the Bobcats. Bismarck totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
