The Texas Tornado beat the Odessa Jackalopes, 5-3, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. CJ Reuschlein provided Texas with the game-winning tally when he scored 4:50 into the the first period.Scott Conway was all over the ice for the Tornado, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Conway's tallies came at 9:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Texas and 18:14 into the second to make the score 4-2 Texas. Odessa's power play was ineffective against Texas' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Tornado forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. Texas surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Tornado's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.7 shots per game they average. Texas also got a goal from Justin Greenberg as well. In addition, Texas received assists from Nick Neville, who had one and Jackson Leef and Max Shuart, who contributed two a piece. The Jackalopes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. By firing 24 shots on goal, Odessa exceeded the 15.2 shots it averages per game this year. The Jackalopes were helped by Brett Wagner, who finished with one goal. Wagner scored on the power play 19 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Texas. Jimmy Peplinski assisted on the tally. Odessa also got points from Cody Slocum, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jude Warner also scored for Odessa. More assists for Odessa came via Anthony Olguin and Matt Volonnino, who each chipped in one. Hunter Leisner rejected 21 shots on goal for Texas. Nick Deery made 37 saves for Odessa on 42 shots. The Jackalopes ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and three majors.
