Johnstown hangs on, beats Jamestown 3-1

Jeff Bergh gave the Johnstown Tomahawks the lead in the first period, and the Jamestown Ironmen was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Johnstown took over the lead for good with a goal by Bergh at 6:16 in the first period. Mitch Kontny picked up the assist.

The Tomahawks were led by goalie Chris Truehl, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Truehl will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.49.

Johnstown was led by Ian Spencer, who registered one goal. Spencer scored 4:41 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Johnstown. Zack Wallace provided the assist.

The Tomahawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Johnstown had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Tomahawks stifled Jamestown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.5 shots per game it averages. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Johnstown also got a goal from Jordan Watt as well. In addition, Johnstown received assists from JB Baker and Brandon Reinholz, who each chipped in one.

The the Ironmen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Jamestown had been spending in the box. The Ironmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Tomahawks to score on any of their four power plays.

Jamestown was led by Ryan Doucet, who scored the team's only goal. Doucet scored 18:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Johnstown. Evan Ritt assisted on the tally.

Joe Ballmer rejected 25 shots on goal for the Ironmen. Jamestown registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
