Kenai River blows out Fresno, 5-1

The Fresno Monsters had trouble finding ways to stop the Kenai River Brown Bears, which beat Monsters, 5-1.

Fresno was stymied by Kenai River netminder Evan McCarthy, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. McCarthy certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.76 entering the contest.

The Brown Bears were led by Brad LeLievre, who had one goal and one assist. LeLievre scored 10:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kenai River. Conor Deal assisted on the tally.

Kenai River's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Fresno power plays. The Brown Bears' goal total was higher than their season average. Kenai River averages 2.9 goals per game. The 44 shots that the Brown Bears put on net surpassed Kenai River's average of 24.7 shots per game this season.

Kenai River also got points from Jake Bushey, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Alec Butcher, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Brad Duwe also scored for Kenai River. More assists for Kenai River came via Jacob Davidson, who had one and Vincent Stefan and Alex Jackstadt, who contributed two a piece.

The Monsters excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. With 30 shots on target during the contest, Fresno exceeded the 13.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Monsters were led by Trevor Husch, who scored the team's only goal. Husch scored 4:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kenai River. Justin Plate picked up the assist.

The Brown Bears incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Fresno's Macauley Haight stopped 39 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Monsters incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
