Fairbanks outlasts Kenai River, 3-2

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jakob Romo secured the win for Fairbanks with a goal in the second period.

The Ice Dogs were sparked by Conner Allison, who registered one goal and one assist. Allison scored 13:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks. Max Birkinbine provided the assist.

Fairbanks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Dogs finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. With 35 shots on target during the contest, Fairbanks exceeded the 22.9 shots it averages per game this year.

Fairbanks also got a goal from Lawrence Cornellier as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Kyle Lee, who had one and Chandler Madry, who had two.

Kenai River kept the Ice Dogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Aldridge made 38 saves on 40 shots.

The Brown Bears were helped by Brad Duwe, who racked up one goal. Duwe scored 16:57 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Fairbanks. Alec Butcher picked up the assist. Albin Karlsson also scored for Kenai River. More assists for Kenai River came via Alex Jackstadt, who had two.

Fairbanks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Evan McCarthy recorded 32 saves for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
