Springfield holds on for 3-2 win against JohnstownNelson Center Sat, Mar 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Jr. Blues survived a determined comeback attempt by the Johnstown Tomahawks on the way to a 3-2 win. A goal by Micah Ranum put Springfield up 3-0 in the second period, but Johnstown pulled to within one on Mitch Kontny's tally 2:32 into the third period. The Jr. Blues' offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.4 shots per game they average. Springfield was helped by Tom Cooney, who tallied one goal. Cooney scored 15:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Jack Sloan provided the assist. Springfield also got a goal from Brett Skibba as well. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Ryan Atkinson, who had one and Jeff McFarland, who had two. The Tomahawks relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Kontny, Jordan Watt and Jeff Bergh took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Johnstown's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 11 shots between them. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Cody Gylling, who had one and Casey Nelson, who had two. Ryan Kellenberger rejected 23 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Collin Brennan took the loss and made 22 saves before being replaced by Chris Truehl who made 13 saves. The Tomahawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
