Bismarck rides Nelson to victory over Brookings, 5-1

Evan Giesler was all over the ice for the Bismarck Bobcats, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Bismarck's 5-1 win over the Brookings Blizzard.

Giesler beat Chase Wilson with a shot 3:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Anders assisted on the tally. Giesler dished an assist on Stanislav Dzakhov's goal that made the score 2-1 Bismarck at 7:33 into the second period. He added another helper on Levi Blom's goal that made the score 3-1 Bismarck at 10:30 into the second period.

The Bobcats pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

With 27 shots on target during the contest, Bismarck exceeded the 23.1 shots it averages per game this year. The Bobcats bested their season scoring average. Bismarck averages 2.9 goals per game.

Bismarck also got a goal from Adam Knochenmus as well. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Filip Starzynski, who had two and Jeremy OKeefe, Matt Pohlkamp, Ryan Callahan, and Daniel Kovar, who contributed one a piece.

The 34 shots that Brookings put on net surpassed the Blizzard's average of 29.4 shots per game this season.

Brookings was led by Drew Brevig, who scored the team's only goal. Brevig scored on the power play six seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Brandon Parker picked up the assist.

Aaron Nelson recorded 33 saves for the Bobcats. Bismarck registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Blizzard's starting goalie, Chase Wilson, made 10 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Drew Weigman, who stopped 12 shots. Brookings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
