Amarillo rides Berrafato to victory over Corpus Christi, 5-1AmericanBank Center Wed, Feb 27, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Paul Berrafato helped the Amarillo Bulls defeat the Corpus Christi IceRays, 5-1. Amarillo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes. The Bulls were led by Blake Roubos, who finished with one goal. Roubos scored 1:02 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Amarillo. Dan McNamara provided the assist. Amarillo's offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.5 shots per game it averages. Amarillo also got points from Brady Ferguson, who also had one goal and one assist, McNamara, who also registered one goal and one assist, Omar Mullan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Clint Carlisle, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Connor Frey, Garret Peterson, Tyler Deresky, and Carter Penzien, who each chipped in one. Corpus Christi's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Amarillo power plays. By firing 28 shots on goal, the IceRays exceeded the 24.1 shots they average per game this year. Corpus Christi could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The IceRays were led by Caleb OBrien, who scored the team's only goal. OBrien scored on the power play 7:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Corpus Christi had gotten the advantage when the Bulls' TJ Sarcona was sent off for high sticking. Wayland Williams assisted on the tally. Berrafato recorded 27 saves for Amarillo. Ben Myers made 35 saves for the IceRays on 39 shots. Corpus Christi registered one goal on nine power play opportunities.
