Corpus Christi beats Amarillo 4-1 as Romig gets hat trick

A hat trick by Emil Romig was the highlight in IceRays' 4-1 win against the Amarillo Bulls.

Romig notched his first tally 2:12 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:56 into the third and at 18:28 into the third.

The Corpus Christi IceRays' Hayden Stewart was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 51 saves and let only one puck past him. Stewart certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.07 entering the contest.

Corpus Christi excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The IceRays' offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.0 shots per game they average. Corpus Christi could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Michael Economos also scored for Corpus Christi. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Rudy Sulmonde, who had two and Beau Walker, Andrew Paras, and Eric Purcell, who each chipped in one.

Amarillo stifled the IceRays' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls were held below their usual level of production. Amarillo averages 3.9 goals per game. The Bulls' offense rang up 52 shots on Corpus Christi's net.

Amarillo was led by Matt Sieckhaus, who scored the team's only goal. Sieckhaus scored 17:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. Joe Grabowski picked up the assist.

The IceRays registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Collin Delia made 24 saves for the Bulls on 27 shots. Amarillo ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
