Corpus Christi rides Myers to victory over Amarillo, 2-1

The Corpus Christi IceRays relied on the sparkling performance of Ben Myers in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Amarillo Bulls.

Corpus Christi was led by Eric Purcell, who grabbed one goal. Purcell scored 9:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. AJ Jarosz picked up the assist.

The the IceRays penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Corpus Christi had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The IceRays excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Brandon Berkley also scored for Corpus Christi. In addition, Corpus Christi received assists from Beau Walker, Charles Baldwin, and Wayland Williams, who each chipped in one.

Amarillo was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The Bulls surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Amarillo stifled Corpus Christi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Amarillo puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. The Bulls' offense rang up 31 shots on the IceRays' net.

Amarillo was led by Gage Christianson, who scored the team's only goal. Christianson scored 14:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. TJ Sherman assisted on the tally.

Myers rejected 30 shots on goal for Corpus Christi. The IceRays registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For Corpus Christi, Ryan Chiasson was ejected from the game. Paul Berrafato recorded 20 saves for the Bulls. Team's John Rey and Geoff Fortman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
