Topeka holds on for 4-3 win against Texas

The Texas Tornado tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Topeka RoadRunners would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Jerad Tafoya put Topeka up 4-2 in the third period, but Texas pulled to within one on Max Shuart's tally 9:59 into the third period.

The RoadRunners were paced by Tafoya, who grabbed one goal. Tafoya scored 9:05 into the third period to make the score Topeka. Clint Garris provided the assist.

By firing 33 shots on goal, Topeka exceeded the 24.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Topeka also got points from Tomas Nechala, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Tyler Groat, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Drew Kariofiles also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Tyler Andrew, who had two and Jake Kamrass, Juraj Kucirko, and Tyler Poulsen, who each chipped in one.

The Tornado excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Texas additionally got points from Brandon Hawkins, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Texas received assists from Jackson Leef, Michael Hoy, Scott Conway, Andrew Mayer, and elexie solovyev, who contributed one a piece.

Spencer Viele recorded 25 saves for the RoadRunners. Topeka ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Texas' Hunter Leisner stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Tornado totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
