Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Austin Bruins defeated the Bismarck Bobcats in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Bismarck got shootout goals from Patrick Moore and Adam Knochenmus. Austin also got shootout goals from Jay Dickman and Drew Anderson.The Bruins overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Austin was down 3-2 after a goal by the Bobcats' Moore at 5:15 in the third period. The Bruins tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Anderson at 17:31 in the third period. Austin excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Bruins were helped by Brandon Wahlin, who registered one goal and one assist. Wahlin scored on the power play 3:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Austin. Austin earned a power play opportunity when Nate Repensky was put in the box for hooking. Dickman picked up the assist. Austin also got points from Cody Dixon, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Austin came via John Simonson, who had one and Riley Colvard, who had two. Bismarck put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.4 it averages per game. Stanislav Dzakhov also scored for Bismarck. Other players who recorded assists for Bismarck were Mike Dockry and Bob Kinne, who contributed one a piece and Knochenmus and Joe Giordano, who each chipped in two. The Bruins' Jason Pawloski stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Austin incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Aaron Nelson recorded 21 saves for the Bobcats. Bismarck incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
