Fresno vanquishes Johnstown in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fresno Monsters defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Johnstown's shootout goal was scored by Cody Gylling. In addition to the clincher, Fresno got a shootout goal from Newton Fuller.

The Monsters overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fresno fell behind 2-0 after a goal by the Tomahawks' Andrew McDonald at 11:02 in the first period. The Monsters tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matt Salituro at 16:08 in the second period.

Salituro was all over the ice for Fresno, as he registered two goals in the win.

The Monsters stifled Johnstown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 34 shots on goal, Fresno exceeded the 15.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Trevor Husch, who had one.

The Tomahawks' defensemen bolstered Johnstown's offensive attack, as they bombarded Tomas Sholl with 13 shots. The Tomahawks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.3 shots per game they average.

Johnstown also got a goal from Cobi Smith-Mass as well. More assists for Johnstown came via Cody Boyd, Connor Wright, and Zack Wallace, who contributed one a piece.

Sholl rejected 30 shots on goal for the Monsters. Fresno incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chris Truehl recorded 31 saves for Johnstown. The Tomahawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
