Topeka holds on for 4-3 win against Wichita Falls

The Wichita Falls Wildcats tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Topeka RoadRunners held on for a 4-3 victory.

Topeka took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Wichita Falls storm back on a Eliot Grauer goal 11:33 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Kyle Sharkey had one goal and two assists to lead the RoadRunners. Sharkey scored 23 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Topeka.

Topeka was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The 32 shots that the RoadRunners put on net surpassed Topeka's average of 24.4 shots per game this season.

Topeka also got points from Sean Gaffney, who also had one goal and one assist. Trace Strahle also scored for Topeka. In addition, Topeka received assists from Patrick Pollock and Peter Halash, who contributed one a piece.

The Wildcats racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Wichita Falls had been spending in the box. The Wildcats put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.1 they average per game.

Wichita Falls was helped by Kyle Bauman, who finished with one goal. Bauman scored on the power play 18:58 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Wildcats had gotten the advantage when the RoadRunners' Drew Kariofiles was sent off for cross checking. O'Neal L assisted on the tally. Wichita Falls also got a goal from Patrick Yudez as well. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Salminen Sami, who had two and Nick Farmer and Tyler Ledford, who each chipped in one.

Topeka's Mackenzie Sawyer stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The RoadRunners registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Evan Cowley recorded 28 saves for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
