Austin beats Brookings 4-3 after comeback scare

The Austin Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Brookings Blizzard on the way to a 4-3 win.

Austin took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Brookings storm back on a Justin Moody goal 16:01 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Bruins were led by Brandon Wahlin, who tallied one goal and one assist. Wahlin scored 5:39 into the third period to make the score Austin. Kody Reuter assisted on the tally.

Austin relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as John Simonson, Jay Dickman and Drew Anderson took 18 of the team's 35 shots.

Austin also got points from Simonson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dickman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Austin also got a goal from Chris Fischer as well. In addition, Austin received assists from Jake Flynn, CJ Smith, and Grant Eichstadt, who contributed one a piece.

Cody Marooney also scored for Brookings. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Brandon Parker, Nick DeCenzo, Thomas Williams, and Eric Brenk, who each chipped in one.

Jason Pawloski recorded 27 saves for the Bruins. Austin incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Drew Weigman made 31 saves for the Blizzard on 35 shots. Brookings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
