Fairbanks downs Kenai River, 6-1

Ben Campbell racked up one point to lead the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to a 6-1 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Fairbanks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Ice Dogs' goal total was higher than their season average. Fairbanks averages 3.3 goals per game. The Ice Dogs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Fairbanks also got points from Colton Wolter, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Garret Clemment as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Doug Rose, Nick Hinz, Lawrence Cornellier, Brett Gervais, Devin Loe, Jacob Hetz, and Jayson Angus, who each chipped in one and Duggie Lagrone and Max Birkinbine, who contributed two a piece.

Kenai River stifled Fairbanks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Brown Bears failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 16 pucks on goal after averaging 25.1 shots per game this season.

Kenai River was led by Chris Nuth, who scored the team's only goal. Nuth scored 9:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Jake Bushey assisted on the tally.

The Ice Dogs' Steve Perry stopped 15 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Fairbanks totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Evan McCarthy rejected 20 shots on goal for the Brown Bears. Kenai River ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
