Springfield uses shootout to best Michigan, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Springfield Jr. Blues defeated the Michigan Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Springfield also got a shootout goal from Brett Skibba.

The Jr. Blues overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Springfield fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Michigan's Brad Pizzey at 3:56 in the second period. The Jr. Blues tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Ryan Atkinson at 15:41 in the third period.

By firing 51 shots on goal, Springfield exceeded the 27.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Jack Sloan also scored for Springfield. More assists for Springfield came via Terry Leibo and Jeff McFarland, who contributed one a piece and Parker Johnson and Davis Dekorte, who each chipped in two.

The Warriors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Springfield power plays. With 35 shots on target during the contest, Michigan exceeded the 25.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Michigan also got a goal from AJ Marcinek as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Martin Gruse, who had two and Colin Larkin, Connor Lyons, and Luke Fiegl, who contributed one a piece.

Stefanos Lekkas rejected 32 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Trevor Gorsuch recorded 47 saves for the Warriors. Michigan incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
