Jamestown beats Fresno 6-0 as Wojtala gains shutout

The Jamestown Ironmen used a sparkling performance by Blake Wojtala to take down the Fresno Monsters, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Jamestown's 6-0 shutout victory.

The Ironmen got the win with help from a great game by Tyler Dunagan, who had two goals and one assist. Dunagan scored the first of his two goals at 18:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Jamestown. Nicholas Sierra assisted on the tally. Dunagan's next tally made the score 5-0 Jamestown with 13:18 left in the third period. Sierra provided the assist.

Jamestown's defensive play was more effective than usual against Fresno. The Ironmen average 2.6 goals allowed per game. Jamestown's goal total was higher than its season average. The Ironmen have scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 37 shots on goal, Jamestown exceeded the 30.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Jamestown included Ryan Doucet, who had two and Nathan Ropelewski and Michael Mazzotta, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Ryan Urso, who had two and Tyler Minx, Joe Mottiqua, Elliot Tisdale, Kenny Curtis, Evan Ritt, and Luc Gerdes, who each chipped in one.

The Monsters' offense operated below they season average. Fresno averages 2.3 goals per game. The Monsters' offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 17.3 shots per game they average.

Fresno was led by Mitchell Snyder, who took six shots.

Wojtala recorded 28 saves for the Ironmen. Jamestown totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Macauley Haight made 31 saves for the Monsters on 37 shots. Fresno totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
