Zink leads Jamestown over Fresno, 7-4

Dylan Zink was all over the ice for the Jamestown Ironmen, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Jamestown's 7-4 win over the Fresno Monsters.

Zink got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 13:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Ironmen had taken the advantage when Fresno's Justin Plate got sent off for tripping. Huba Sekesi assisted on the tally. Zink dished an assist on Luc Gerdes's goal that made the score 7-2 Jamestown at 7:02 into the third period. He added another helper on Tyler Dunagan's goal that made the score 8-3 Jamestown at 9:45 into the third period.

Jamestown surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Ironmen average 2.9 goals per game. Jamestown found itself short handed often, totaling 46 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Ryan Urso also scored for Jamestown. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Matt Lanzillotti, Aaron Scheppelman, Ryan Doucet, and Daniel Cesarz, who contributed one a piece.

The Monsters forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Fresno had been spending in the box. The Monsters put 23 shots on net during the contest, more than the 17.7 they average per game.

Fresno was helped by Jacob McDowell, who racked up one goal. McDowell scored 2:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno. Newton Fuller picked up the assist. Fresno also got points from Fuller, who also had one goal and one assist and Trevor Husch, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fresno also got a goal from Tyler Shipstad as well. More assists for Fresno came via Ian Janco, Karl Andersen, and Daniel Rosse, who each chipped in one.

The Ironmen's Joe Ballmer stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Jamestown registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Tomas Sholl made 23 saves for the Monsters on 30 shots. Fresno ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andersen was ejected from the game.
