Beauvais leads Kalamazoo over Springfield, 7-0

Brett Beauvais was all over the ice for the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Kalamazoo's 7-0 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Beauvais' tallies came on the power play at 11:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kalamazoo and 15:13 into the third to make the score 7-0 Kalamazoo.

The Jr. K-Wings were boosted by Marcus Due-Boje, who turned in a shutout with 33 saves. The solid play of Due-Boje will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.34.

Kalamazoo forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and three majors for 57 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. K-Wings had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Kalamazoo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Jr. K-Wings' defensive effort looked to be improved. Kalamazoo gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. The Jr. K-Wings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Kalamazoo averages 3.3 goals per contest. The Jr. K-Wings got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Kalamazoo's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.2 shots per game it averages.

Kalamazoo also had goals scored by Kyle Gattelaro, who had two and Brendan Vetter, Brennan Sanford, and Mike Fazio, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Christian George, who had one, Danny Hamburg and Kody Polin, who each chipped in two, and Taylor Burden and Robbie Payne, who contributed three a piece.

Springfield was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Blues surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Springfield was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. Blues put an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game. Springfield's offense rang up 33 shots on the Jr. K-Wings' net.

The Jr. Blues were led by Trevor Stone, who took five shots.

Kalamazoo registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. For the Jr. K-Wings, Payne was ejected from the game. Matt Leon took the loss and made 18 saves before being replaced by Ryan Kellenberger who made 17 saves. Springfield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jon Carkeek was ejected from the game.
