Amarillo beats Wichita Falls 4-2 after comeback scare

The Wichita Falls Wildcats tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Amarillo Bulls would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Amarillo took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Wichita Falls storm back on a George Pagonis goal 12:00 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Bulls were sparked by Tyler Gernhofer, who had one goal. Gernhofer scored 6:29 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Amarillo. TJ Sarcona picked up the assist.

Amarillo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Wichita Falls power plays. The Bulls kept the Wildcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cooper Cook made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Amarillo also got points from Gage Christianson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brady Ferguson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Sarcona, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Garret Peterson, Tyler Rostenkowski, Ryan Cole, Mike Davis, and TJ Sherman, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita Falls relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Eliot Grauer, Pagonis and Kyle Bauman took 13 of the team's 22 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Erik Ouellette, who had one.

Collin Delia recorded 20 saves for Amarillo. The Bulls totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Wildcats ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. For Wichita Falls, Jake Townsend was ejected from the game.
