Kalamazoo downs Springfield in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings' Danny Hamburg scored 3:05 into overtime to beat the Springfield Jr. Blues, 6-5 (OT).

Kalamazoo came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jr. K-Wings fell behind 5-3 after a goal by Springfield's Brett Skibba at 15:53 in the third period. Kalamazoo knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Mike Fazio at 19:58 in the third period.

Fazio had two goals to lead the Jr. K-Wings to victory.

Kalamazoo surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jr. K-Wings average 3.3 goals per contest. The 35 shots that Kalamazoo put on net surpassed the Jr. K-Wings' average of 29.7 shots per game this season.

Kalamazoo additionally got points from Taylor Burden, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Robbie Payne, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Hamburg, who also had one goal and one assist. Christian George also scored for Kalamazoo. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Kyle Gattelaro, who had two and Mark Esshaki, Brendan Vetter, Dillon Eichstadt, Brennan Sanford, Mac McDonnell, and Brett Beauvais, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Blues excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Springfield outdid its season average for goals scored. The Jr. Blues average 2.5 goals per game. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Springfield exceeded the 27.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Springfield also got points from Parker Johnson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Ryan Atkinson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Jeff McFarland, Trevor Stone, Tom Cooney, and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one.

Alex Okicki made 27 saves for Kalamazoo on 32 shots. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ryan Kellenberger rejected 29 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
