Janesville vanquishes Johnstown in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Janesville Jets defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Johnstown's shootout goal was scored by Jordan Watt. In addition to the clincher, Janesville got a shootout goal from Jason Ford.

The Jets came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Janesville trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by the Tomahawks' Ian Spencer at 9:16 in the first period. The Jets knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Watt at 11:40 in the second period.

In a losing effort, Johnstown was paced by Watt, who racked up one goal and two assists.

Janesville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Jets surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Janesville put 24 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.5 it averages per game. The Jets' defensemen bolstered Janesville's offensive attack, as they bombarded Collin Brennan with 10 shots.

The Jets were helped by Dan Litchke, who had one goal. Litchke scored 19:44 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Pedlan Ruslan assisted on the tally. Ryan Gotelaere also scored for Janesville. More assists for Janesville came via Brett Bauza, Zach Diamantoni, Conor Lemirande, and David Longaker, who contributed one a piece.

The Tomahawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 21 penalty minutes. Team could not crack Janesville's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Johnstown's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game.

Johnstown also got points from Cody Gylling, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Casey Nelson, Mitch Hall, and Jesse Kessler, who each chipped in one.

The Jets' Brock Kautz stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Janesville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Collin Brennan made 20 saves for the Tomahawks on 23 shots.
