Trace Strahle gave the Topeka RoadRunners the lead in the first period, and the Corpus Christi IceRays was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Strahle provided Topeka with the game-winning tally when he scored 9:03 into the the first period. The RoadRunners earned a power play opportunity when Lucas McDiarmid was put in the box for slashing. Sean Gaffney provided the assist.

Topeka was paced by Tyler Groat, who finished with one goal. Groat scored 19:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Topeka. Drew Kariofiles picked up the assist.

The RoadRunners were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes. Topeka's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.3 shots per game it averages.

Topeka also got a goal from Mike Gornall as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Ross Luedtke and Juraj Kucirko, who contributed one a piece.

Corpus Christi averages 24.8 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against the RoadRunners. The IceRays found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Corpus Christi was led by Emil Romig, who scored the team's only goal. Romig scored on the power play 47 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Michael Economos provided the assist.

Spencer Viele recorded 18 saves for Topeka. The IceRays' Ben Myers stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Corpus Christi registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
