Topeka hangs on, beats Corpus Christi 3-1Kansas ExpoCentre Sat, Feb 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Trace Strahle gave the Topeka RoadRunners the lead in the first period, and the Corpus Christi IceRays was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. Strahle provided Topeka with the game-winning tally when he scored 9:03 into the the first period. The RoadRunners earned a power play opportunity when Lucas McDiarmid was put in the box for slashing. Sean Gaffney provided the assist.Topeka was paced by Tyler Groat, who finished with one goal. Groat scored 19:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Topeka. Drew Kariofiles picked up the assist. The RoadRunners were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes. Topeka's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.3 shots per game it averages. Topeka also got a goal from Mike Gornall as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Ross Luedtke and Juraj Kucirko, who contributed one a piece.
