Wichita Falls holds on for 5-4 win against Odessa

The Odessa Jackalopes tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Wichita Falls made the score 4-0 on a goal by Tyler Ledford at 17:37 in the second period, and Odessa got as close as 4-3 when Taylor Portner scored 17:07 into the third period.

The Wildcats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Odessa power plays. By firing 39 shots on goal, Wichita Falls exceeded the 28.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wildcats were led by O'Neal L, who registered three goals. Will Vosejpka also scored for Wichita Falls. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Kyle Bauman, who had two, Colin Staub, who had three, and Matt Robinson, Eliot Grauer, Rudy Junda, and Jake Townsend, who contributed one a piece.

The Jackalopes' offense rang up 33 shots on Wichita Falls' net.

Odessa also got points from Lawrence Cornellier, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Odessa also got a goal from Matt Volonnino as well. More assists for Odessa came via Stephen Inman, Josh Racek, Rif Taff, Anthony Olguin, Mike Mezzano, Dylan Campbell, and Zane Popilock, who each chipped in one.

Evan Cowley made 29 saves for the Wildcats on 33 shots. Wichita Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Odessa's Nick Deery stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Jackalopes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
