Kenai River rides Zelzer to victory over Wenatchee, 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Marcus Zelzer helped the Kenai River Brown Bears defeat the Wenatchee Wild, 2-1.

Kenai River was sparked by Alec Butcher, who registered one goal and one assist. Butcher scored on the power play 13:31 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kenai River. Matt Seidel assisted on the tally.

The Brown Bears were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Kenai River had been spending in the box.

Kenai River additionally got points from Seidel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Albin Karlsson, who had two.

Wenatchee forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Wild surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Wenatchee was held below its usual level of production. The Wild put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Wenatchee exceeded the 27.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wild were led by Trace Redmond, who scored the team's only goal. Redmond scored 11:31 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Joshua Hartley picked up the assist.

Zelzer recorded 35 saves for the Brown Bears. Kenai River registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Brown Bears, Ryan Walker was ejected from the game. Nick Schmit made 25 saves for Wenatchee on 27 shots. The Wild registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
