Kalamazoo outlasts Janesville, 4-2

The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Janesville Jets.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Luc Boby's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Kalamazoo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Jr. K-Wings were led by Taylor Burden, who registered one goal. Burden scored 55 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Kalamazoo. Kyle Gattelaro assisted on the tally.

Kalamazoo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Janesville power plays.

Kalamazoo also got points from Lucas Kohls, who also had one goal and one assist and Kody Polin, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Robbie Payne, who had two and Mark Esshaki, Mac McDonnell, and Brett Beauvais, who contributed one a piece.

Janesville put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.3 it averages per game. The Jets were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Janesville was helped by Donovan Gardnier, who racked up one goal. Gardnier scored 5:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Janesville. Tyler Tatro provided the assist. Janesville also got a goal from Jordan Himley as well. More assists for Janesville came via Ryan Gotelaere and Albergo, who each chipped in one.

Alex Okicki recorded 24 saves for the Jr. K-Wings. Kalamazoo registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Brock Kautz made 24 saves for the Jets on 28 shots.
