Brookings hangs on, beats Coulee Region 3-1Omni Center Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Evan Hesse gave the Brookings Blizzard the lead in the first period, and the Coulee Region Chill was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. Hesse provided Brookings with the game-winning tally when he scored 6:51 into the the first period. The Blizzard had gained a power play chance when Cam Bleck was whistled for hooking. Justin Moody assisted on the tally.Brookings got the win with help from a great game by Eric Brenk, who had two goals and one assist. Brenk scored the first of his two goals at 11:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brookings. Jordan Stejskal picked up the assist. Brenk's next tally made the score 3-1 Brookings with 6:13 left in the third period. Tyler Cayemberg assisted on the tally. Coulee Region was stymied by the Blizzard netminder Chase Wilson, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Wilson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.41 prior to the game. Brookings racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Blizzard had been spending in the box. Brookings put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.7 it averages per game. More assists for Brookings came via Drew Brevig and Derek Sand, who contributed one a piece. The Chill's offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.9 shots per game they average. Coulee Region was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. The Chill were led by Kevin Becker, who scored the team's only goal. Becker scored on the power play 12:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Coulee Region had gotten the advantage when the Blizzard's Moody was sent off for interference. Garrett Hendrickson provided the assist. Brookings registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Blake Cates recorded 30 saves for the Chill. Coulee Region incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
