Kalamazoo rides Okicki to victory over Port Huron, 2-1McMorran Arena - Main Wed, Jan 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings relied on the sparkling performance of Alex Okicki in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons. Kalamazoo was sparked by Christian George, who registered one goal and one assist. George scored on the power play 8:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kalamazoo. The Jr. K-Wings earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Nick was put in the box for checking from behind. Mac McDonnell provided the assist. Kalamazoo stifled Port Huron's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 29 shots on target during the contest, the Jr. K-Wings exceeded the 25.9 shots they average per game this year. Danny Hamburg also scored for Kalamazoo. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Brett Beauvais and Luc Boby, who contributed one a piece. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Fighting Falcons exceeded the 27.5 shots they average per game this year. Port Huron was led by Bryan Yim, who scored the team's only goal. Yim scored 5:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Port Huron. Easton Powers picked up the assist. Kalamazoo's Okicki stopped 37 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Alex Blankenburg rejected 27 shots on goal for the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. |
