Texas rolls over Odessa, 5-2

The Texas Tornado were firing on all cylinders against the Odessa Jackalopes, and when the final buzzer sounded Tornado emerged with a 5-2 win.

Texas was sparked by AJ Duggan, who registered one goal and one assist. Duggan scored 17:34 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Texas. Leo Lumm picked up the assist.

The Tornado put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Odessa to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 49 shots on goal, Texas exceeded the 29.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Texas additionally got points from Scott Conway, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Lumm, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Texas also got a goal from Mitchell McPherson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Michael Hoy and Brandon Hawkins, who contributed one a piece.

The Jackalopes stifled the Tornado's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Odessa was helped by Dylan Campbell, who finished with one goal. Campbell scored 11:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jimmy Peplinski provided the assist. Lawrence Cornellier also scored for Odessa.

Hunter Leisner made 14 saves for Texas on 16 shots. The Tornado incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jackalopes' Phil Heinle stopped 44 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Odessa incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
