Fairbanks uses shootout to best Springfield, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Springfield Jr. Blues in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Fairbanks also got a shootout goal from Jayson Angus.

The Ice Dogs came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fairbanks was down 1-0 after a goal by Springfield's Jeff McFarland at 14:05 in the first period. The Ice Dogs knotted things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by Garret Clemment at 10:51 in the third period.

Fairbanks put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 it averages per game.

More assists for Fairbanks came via Nick Hinz and Devin Loe, who contributed one a piece.

In addition, Springfield received assists from Terry Leibo and Brett Skibba, who each chipped in one.

Steve Perry made 21 saves for the Ice Dogs on 22 shots. Fairbanks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Ryan Kellenberger rejected 39 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
