Wenatchee rolls over Fresno, 5-0

The Wenatchee Wild were firing on all cylinders against the Fresno Monsters, and when the final buzzer sounded Wild emerged with a 5-0 win.

Wenatchee's penalty kill excelled, as the Wild gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Wenatchee was paced by Trace Redmond, who grabbed one goal. Redmond scored on the power play 3:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. The Wild had taken the advantage when Fresno's James Mathias got sent off for slashing. Blake Butzow provided the assist.

Wenatchee stifled the Monsters' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wild's defensive play was more effective than usual against Fresno. Wenatchee allows 2.2 goals per game. The Wild's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wenatchee finished with 29 penalty minutes. The Wild's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.6 shots per game they average.

Wenatchee also got points from Max McHugh, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wenatchee also had goals scored by Evan Schmidbauer, who had one and Chris Kerr, who had two. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Joseph Sullivan and Brian Williams, who contributed one a piece and Noah Nelson, Derick Kuchera, and Tyler Bruneteau, who each chipped in two.

The Monsters did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Fresno puts an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Monsters were led by Kyle Sucher, who took three shots.

Wenatchee's Nick Schmit stopped 21 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Wild registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Macauley Haight made 28 saves for Fresno on 33 shots. The Monsters ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
