Springfield survives Kenai River comeback, wins 4-3

The Kenai River Brown Bears tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Springfield Jr. Blues would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Brett Skibba put Springfield up 4-1 in the second period, but Kenai River pulled to within one on Alex Jackstadt's tally 1:55 into the third period.

With 32 shots on target during the contest, the Jr. Blues exceeded the 26.4 shots they average per game this year.

Jack Sloan also scored for Springfield. More assists for Springfield came via Mike Severson, who had two and Terry Leibo, Theo Tydingco, and Jon Carkeek, who each chipped in one.

The Brown Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Springfield power plays. The 39 shots that Kenai River put on net surpassed the Brown Bears' average of 21.5 shots per game this season.

Kenai River also got a goal from Chris Nuth as well. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Zac Lazzaro and Zack Zulkanycz, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Walker and Alec Butcher, who each chipped in two.

Matt Leon made 36 saves for Springfield on 39 shots. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kenai River's Evan McCarthy stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Brown Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
