Kalamazoo rides Due-Boje to victory over Michigan, 2-1Dort Event Center 1 Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Marcus Due-Boje helped the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings defeat the Michigan Warriors, 2-1. Michigan's power play was ineffective against Kalamazoo's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Jr. K-Wings were sparked by Luc Boby, who had one goal. Boby scored 9:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kalamazoo. Christian George assisted on the tally. The 31 shots that Kalamazoo put on net surpassed the Jr. K-Wings' average of 24.5 shots per game this season. Kalamazoo also got a goal from Trevor Boyd as well. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Jesse Junttila, Mac McDonnell, and Danny Hamburg, who each chipped in one. The Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kalamazoo to score on any of its six power plays. By firing 39 shots on goal, Michigan exceeded the 22.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Warriors were led by Jake Faiella, who scored the team's only goal. Faiella scored on the power play 11:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan. Michigan had gained a power play chance when Sam Johnson was whistled for slashing. Martin Gruse picked up the assist. The Jr. K-Wings' Due-Boje stopped 38 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Kalamazoo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Trevor Gorsuch made 29 saves for the Warriors on 31 shots. Michigan incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
