Port Huron stifles Johnstown's comeback, gains 4-2 victoryCambria County War Memorial Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Huron Fighting Falcons came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Johnstown Tomahawks, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory. Port Huron led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Fighting Falcons' Dunk Abbott's scored at 19:10 in the first period to put Port Huron up 3-0. Abbott had two goals to lead the Fighting Falcons to victory. Port Huron's penalty kill excelled, as the Fighting Falcons gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The defensemen of Port Huron were also effective in Johnstown's zone, and came away with two goals. The Fighting Falcons' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.7 shots per game they average. Kody Polin also scored for Port Huron. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Payden Mielke, who had two and Brett DAndrea, Mitch Maloney, Rick DeRosa, and Alex Blankenburg, who contributed one a piece. The Tomahawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Huron to score on any of its five power plays. By firing 31 shots on goal, Johnstown exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Tomahawks were led by Jesse Kessler, who tallied one goal and one assist. Kessler scored on the power play 3:23 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Huron. Johnstown had taken the advantage when the Fighting Falcons' Abbott got sent off for holding. Andrew McDonald assisted on the tally. Johnstown also got a goal from Jaycob McCombs as well. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Casey Nelson, who had one. Blankenburg recorded 29 saves for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Collin Brennan took the loss and made 19 saves before being replaced by Chris Truehl who made 17 saves. The Tomahawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
