Port Huron vanquishes Johnstown in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Huron Fighting Falcons defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Port Huron got a shootout goal from Easton Powers.

The Fighting Falcons overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Port Huron trailed 2-1 after a goal by Johnstown's Zack Wallace at 5:55 in the third period. The Fighting Falcons tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Ian Miller at 10:18 in the third period.

Port Huron excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Fighting Falcons put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.5 they average per game.

Port Huron also got a goal from Powers as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Brett DAndrea, Bryan Yim, Rick DeRosa, and Payden Mielke, who contributed one a piece.

The Tomahawks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Johnstown wound up below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The 38 shots that the Tomahawks put on net surpassed Johnstown's average of 27.0 shots per game this season.

Casey Nelson also scored for Johnstown. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Andrew McDonald, Connor Wright, and Cody Gylling, who each chipped in one.

Port Huron's Alex Blankenburg stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Fighting Falcons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Collin Brennan made 34 saves for the Tomahawks on 36 shots.
