The Austin Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Brookings Blizzard on the way to a 5-3 win. Austin made the score 5-2 on a goal by AJ Reid at 13:51 in the second period, and Brookings got as close as 5-3 when Connor Andrle scored 19:15 into the third period. The Bruins were sparked by Drew Anderson, who racked up one goal. Anderson scored 5:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Austin. Riley Colvard picked up the assist. Austin was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Bruins surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Austin's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.3 shots per game it averages. Austin also got a goal from Chris Fischer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were CJ Smith, who had two and Joey Caprio, Jake Flynn, Nate Mondry, Jay Dickman, Brandon Wahlin, and Kody Reuter, who contributed one a piece. The Blizzard found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing two power plays. By firing 44 shots on goal, Brookings exceeded the 25.5 shots it averages per game this year. Thomas Williams also scored for Brookings. In addition, Brookings received assists from Nikta Sokolov, Justin Moody, Joe Anderson, Evan Hesse, Nick DeCenzo, and Adam Cavalinni, who each chipped in one. Nicholas Lehr rejected 41 shots on goal for the Bruins. Drew Weigman recorded 30 saves for the Blizzard. Brookings registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
