Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka RoadRunners defeated the Amarillo Bulls in a shootout 4-3 (3-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Amarillo got a shootout goal from Tyler Gernhofer. Topeka also got shootout goals from Jerad Tafoya and Brandon Brossoit.The RoadRunners overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Topeka was down 3-1 after a goal by the Bulls' Joe Grabowski at 17:47 in the second period. The RoadRunners tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Tyler Andrew at 17:16 in the third period. Amarillo's power play was ineffective against Topeka's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The RoadRunners racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Topeka had been spending in the box. The RoadRunners put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulls to score on any of their seven power plays. Topeka was led by Kyle Sharkey, who finished with one goal and one assist. Sharkey scored on the power play 30 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Sean Gaffney assisted on the tally. Topeka also got a goal from Dan Dupell as well. More assists for Topeka came via Michal Pastor and Brossoit, who each chipped in one. Amarillo was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Bulls surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The RoadRunners were unable to stop Amarillo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulls eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Tyler Deresky also scored for Amarillo. In addition, Amarillo received assists from John Rey, Tyler Rostenkowski, TJ Sarcona, Ryan Cole, and Mike Davis, who contributed one a piece. Spencer Viele recorded 34 saves for Topeka. The RoadRunners registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Paul Berrafato made 21 saves for Amarillo on 24 shots.
