Wichita Falls penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Topeka

The Topeka RoadRunners failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Wichita Falls Wildcats shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Wichita Falls was sparked by Eliot Grauer, who tallied one goal. Grauer scored 7:26 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wichita Falls. Lenny Caglizanoe picked up the assist.

The Wildcats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Topeka power plays. Wichita Falls' goal total was higher than its season average. The Wildcats have scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Others who scored for Wichita Falls included Salminen Sami, who had one and O'Neal L, who had three. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Matt Robinson and Daniel Vaysberg, who each chipped in one and Will Vosejpka and Tyler Ledford, who contributed two a piece.

Topeka's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The RoadRunners are averaging 2.3 goals against for the season.

Topeka was helped by Kyle Sharkey, who had one goal. Sharkey scored 2:14 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wichita Falls. Sean Gaffney provided the assist. Topeka also got points from Gaffney, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Tyler Andrew, who had one.

Evan Cowley rejected 26 shots on goal for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Wichita Falls, Charles Hemstrom was ejected from the game. Spencer Viele took the loss and made 17 saves before being replaced by Mackenzie Sawyer who made five saves. The RoadRunners incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
