Brookings clinches tight 1-0 victory against BismarckVFW Sports Center Sat, Jan 05, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brookings Blizzard and the Bismarck Bobcats played 60 tight minutes of hockey, but in the end it was Brookings that came away with a 1-0 victory. The assists on the winning goal came courtesy of Justin Moody and Connor Andrle.The Blizzard pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. Brookings was paced by Joe Anderson, who finished with one goal. Anderson scored on the power play 8:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. The Blizzard earned a power play opportunity when Daniel Kovar was put in the box for hooking. Moody provided the assist. Brookings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bismarck to score on any of its six power plays. The Blizzard did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Brookings puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Blizzard's defensive effort looked to be improved. Brookings averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Blizzard exceeded the 25.2 shots they average per game this year. The Bobcats were held below their usual level of production. Bismarck averages 2.8 goals per game. The defense for the Bobcats played an important role offensively, racking up 10 shots on goal. Bismarck was led by Matt Anders, who took three shots. Brookings' Drew Weigman stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Blizzard registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Aaron Nelson rejected 30 shots on goal for the Bobcats. Bismarck incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
