Fairbanks uses shootout to best Wenatchee, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Wenatchee Wild in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Wenatchee got a shootout goal from Max McHugh. In addition to the clincher, Fairbanks got a shootout goal from Jayson Angus.

The Ice Dogs overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fairbanks was down 2-0 after a goal by the Wild's Jacob Barber at 9:54 in the second period. The Ice Dogs tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Garret Clemment at 1:24 in the third period.

Fairbanks' penalty kill excelled, as the Ice Dogs gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Fairbanks was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Dogs surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Fairbanks stifled Wenatchee's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Ice Dogs were led by Devin Loe, who finished with one goal and one assist. Loe scored 19:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee. Jakob Romo assisted on the tally. More assists for Fairbanks came via Kyle Lee, who had one.

The Wild's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wenatchee finished with 26 penalty minutes. The 40 shots that the Wild put on net surpassed Wenatchee's average of 27.1 shots per game this season.

Chris Jones also scored for Wenatchee. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Evan Schmidbauer, Chris Kerr, and Tyler Bruneteau, who each chipped in one.

Fairbanks' Kevin Aldridge stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Ice Dogs registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Nick Schmit made 25 saves for the Wild on 27 shots.
