Austin vanquishes Minot in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Riverside    Sat, Jan 05, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Austin Bruins defeated the Minot Minotauros in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured seven attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Austin got a shootout goal from Jay Dickman.

The Bruins overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Austin trailed 3-2 after a goal by Minot's Stephen Sherman at 18:41 in the first period. The Bruins tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Easton Viitala at 17:27 in the third period.

The Minotauros' power play was ineffective against Austin's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The the Bruins penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Austin had been spending in the box. The 38 shots that the Bruins put on net surpassed Austin's average of 29.6 shots per game this season.

Minot forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Minotauros had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Minot exceeded the 23.9 shots it averages per game this year.

Minot also got a goal from Denis Dalidovich as well. More assists for Minot came via Matt Audette, who had two and Seth Blair and Jake McCann, who contributed one a piece.
