Amarillo falls to Texas in overtime, 3-2 (OT)CC-Arena Fri, Jan 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Texas Tornado pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Amarillo Bulls on a clutch goal by Andrew Mayer. Texas was paced by Mayer, who had one goal. Mayer scored 3:50 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Texas. The Tornado stifled Amarillo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 35 shots on goal, Texas exceeded the 31.4 shots it averages per game this year. Texas additionally got points from Scott Conway, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mitchell McPherson also scored for Texas. In addition, Texas received assists from Alex Temby, Michael Hoy, and Brandon Hawkins, who each chipped in one. The Bulls were held below their usual level of production. Amarillo averages 4.2 goals per game. The Bulls kept the Tornado's goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Leisner made 30 saves on 32 shots. Amarillo was helped by Matt Sieckhaus, who finished with one goal. Sieckhaus scored 7:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amarillo. John Rey assisted on the tally. Amarillo also got a goal from Mike Davis as well. More assists for Amarillo came via Gage Christianson, Tyler Gernhofer, and TJ Sherman, who contributed one a piece. Texas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Paul Berrafato rejected 32 shots on goal for the Bulls. Amarillo incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
