Soo downs Kalamazoo, 6-2

Jared VanWormer tallied one point to lead the Soo Eagles to a 6-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings.

Soo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Eagles bested their season scoring average. This season, Soo averages 3.1 goals per contest. By firing 47 shots on goal, the Eagles exceeded the 29.1 shots they average per game this year.

Soo additionally got points from Brandon Adams, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Eric Rivard, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Soo included Michael Covach, who had one and Kyle Loridon, who had two. In addition, Soo received assists from Michael Lant and Chris Waterstreet, who contributed one a piece and Cody Von Reuden and Sean Murphy, who each chipped in two.

Kalamazoo put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.2 it averages per game.

The Jr. K-Wings were helped by Robbie Payne, who registered one goal and one assist. Payne scored 43 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Kyle Gattelaro picked up the assist. Kalamazoo also got points from Taylor Burden, who also had one goal and one assist.

Tyler Marble recorded 27 saves for Soo. The Eagles incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Alex Okicki made 41 saves for Kalamazoo on 46 shots. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
